Current Information:Age-20 23, Granleigh Road, Leytonstone HMS Lilac was an Acacia class fleet sweeping sloop. On 18th August, 1915 she was operating in the Cromarty Firth sector of the North Sea when she hit a mine which severely damaged the ship and killed 16 of her crew, Despite the heavy sea her sister ship HMS Hollyhock managed to tow her into Peterhead harbour where she was repaired and rejoined the fleet a few months later. |
